He has detailed knowledge about the sub-prime and non-conforming residential mortgage markets, car finance, consumer lending, secured loans, and securitisation. Philip also has a wealth of knowledge about the UK economy, general regulatory matters and general insurance.
Prior to joining Commercial First Mortgages in June 2003, Philip George had been the managing director of First National – the leading finance house specialist lending arm of Abbey National plc.
Philip George took the helm at First National in 1997. Under his stewardship the company grew eightfold to a balance sheet of £8bn and annual profits of £120m. His last major role was to lead the negotiations with GE Capital as the US Giant completed its purchase of the secured and unsecured business of First National.
Commenting on his appointment in 2003, Commercial First chief executive David Johnson said: “I’ve been a fan of Philip’s style of management for a long time and it’s great news for everyone concerned with Commercial First that he has chosen to join us as our Managing Director. Philip leads from the front and isn’t frightened of making decisions.”
